Abilene Hope Haven quietly opened their doors to a handful of Abilene’s
homeless in 1994. This facility serves single men and women.
In March of 2002 Abilene
Hope Haven opened the doors to a second facility, Hope Haven Too
which serves homeless families.
Our residents pay $1 a
month for housing, food and utilities. In return, they must find
and remain employed in a 40-hour-a-week job. If they do not have
a high school degree, they are required to work towards a GED (for
which Hope Haven pays.) Life skill classes are held four nights
a week and attendance is required. In addition, each client must
save every dollar he or she possibly can to prepare for the day
when they will be self-supporting. Finally, each client must totally
abstain from alcohol and drugs. Compliance is verified through random
drug testing.
Abilene Hope Haven's mission is to heal homelessness
and they do this by providing a simple, wholesome place for clients
to live while they work to remedy their situation(s) which resulted
in homelessness. |
