How We Help

On March 1, 2002, Hope Haven opened Hope Haven Too located at 801 S. Treadaway. This building is approximately 10,000 square feet and houses 14 families, while the original program houses 24 single adults. This expansion allowed for the increase of space for 10 additional families and 8 additional single adults. In addition, Hope Haven purchased the land at 2121 N. 6th Street in September 2004 to provide for expansion of programs as need (and available resources) dictates.

During the 2005 calendar year, 140 adults and 80 children were assisted by Abilene Hope Haven, as compared to the 2004 calendar year of 160 adults and 93 children. An additional 809 individuals were referred to other agencies or organizations for services during 2005. These referrals were based on the lack of available space at Hope Haven, failure to pass drug screening, and not meeting requirements. In 2005, Hope Haven had a median success rate of 83.74 percent among all adults. Specific results for 2005 include:

- 83.29 percent success in residents moving into their own home or apartment.
- 86.12 percent success in residents leaving the program with a job capable of supporting themselves and their family.

- 77.95 percent success in residents securing their own mode of transportation.
- 82.41 percent success in residents leaving the program with a savings account with at least $500 in savings, after securing all necessities.
- 83.08 percent success in residents creating and following a budget.
- 90.2 percent success in residents learning and using improved life skills.
- 82.7 percent success in residents working at better than minimum wage.
- 87.08 percent success in residents remaining drug and alcohol free.
- 82.41 percent success in residents managing their stress and reactions effectively.
- 82.03 percent success in residentsí ability to operate within society's expectations.
- 83.95 percent success in residents no longer being considered homeless.

As a result of the Hope Haven program, 123 adults and 69 children moved from our program. (17 adults and 11 children were still in the program on Jan. 1, 2006)
